Faculty members from University College London (UCL), who were in Hangzhou for the 2024 Frontiers in Neuroscience, visited the Affiliated Mental Health Center, ZJU School of Medicine (Hangzhou Seventh People’s Hospital) on March 14, 2024. They were in the company of President Li Tao, Vice President Guo Wanjun, and heads of the hospital’s functional departments.
The delegation’s tour covered several spots, including the outpatient clinic, clinical research wards, the Physical and Somatic Therapy Center, the biobank, and the central lab.
President Li Tao gave them an overview of the hospital’s clinical practice, spotlighting its efficient operations and healthcare services.
The British visitors, at the Physical and Somatic Therapy Center, showed particular interest in treatment modalities such as TMS, light therapy, biofeedback, and exercise therapy. They reflect our hospital’s expertise in physical interventions and its commitment to evidence-based approaches for improving patients’ health.
In the biobank, the delegates learned about the procedures for clinical sample collection, the variety of samples stored, and preservation management protocols. The visit concluded at the central lab - across facilities for pharmaceutical synthesis, molecular labs, patch-clamp setups, iPSC cell culture rooms, and PCR labs. The British experts also talked to the lab staff concerning drug translation and iPSC in clinical practice.
2024 Frontiers in Neuroscience was jointly organized by the School of Brain Science and Brain Medicine, ZJU, the MOE Frontier Science Center for Brain Science and Brain-machine Integration, ZJU, the Affiliated Mental Health Center, ZJU School of Medicine (Hangzhou Seventh People’s Hospital), Liangzhu Laboratory, and the Department of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences, ZJU. It was staged in Hangzhou on March 15 and 16.
The forum brought together leading experts from institutions such as UCL, MIT, and Zhejiang University to discuss cutting-edge topics in brain science, covering the latest advances in basic neuroscience, clinical treatment, and applications.
Two associate research fellows from our hospital, Ni Peiyan and Zhang Yamin, were present to the conference. They reported their findings on the application of brain organoid models and genomics in psychiatric disorder studies.
